"July 2009 Edition"

Welcome to this edition of "That One Newsletter" June has been a busy month (aren't they all?) I've been blessed to have my first grandchild this month which is really exciting. I've been posting updates on my "That One Grandpa" blog. Finishing up on a few projects that I'll be announching soon.

One Project I can mention is Secure Web Images a secure image hosting site for those that are using payments services such as PayPal that allow you to upload a logo to your order page. By using this service your image will be protected by our SSL certificate giving a completly secure order page. Check Out SecureWebImages.com for details.

Also my WordPress Strategies course has just recently been updated with the release of WordPress 2.8 this course is ever growing as members submit more questions.

I'll be mixing up the contents in the newsletter some each month but you should see the cool tools, a featured article, and a reader spotlight. As alway's I'd love to hear from you on what you would like to read about here. At any point just visit That One Newsletter and let me know your thoughts.

Cool Tools

A cool tool I stumbled across in my normal browsing is found at Zinepal.com. This site allows you to plug in a blog url or rss feed and at the press of button it will create a PDF ebook type compilation of the information you selected. This makes a quick and easy to generate content in an easily distributable format.

Featured Article: Simple Passwords

I’ve seen this mistake over and over on many websites and webservices that many business owners utilize. This mistake that I’m talking about is simplistic passwords.

Website hacking to some is a game or adventure they do this to claim some sort of fame. They hack the site and then “Tag” it with their moniker or online ID to let other hackers know who got the score.

There are some things you can do to make it harder for this to happen to you. Were you aware that one of the most common passwords is actually “123456” and in some cases the password is the users first name.

Many times we use passwords that are way too easy to guess and use the same passwords over and over across many sites. So if a hacker finds one password chances are they will try that at other sites they can tell you use. It’s not to difficult to look at the source code and see what autoresponder or shopping cart service you are using.

And of course there are many sites called “who is” sites that gives you the details for who registered what domains and where they were registered.

So it’s really easy to find locations to try the password they just hacked on your site.
So here are some suggestions you can use to create a stronger password.

If you can help it at all, don't use dictionary words or words that are all just alphabets. Most sites will at least allow alpha numerics for passwords but mix it up.

Here's what I mean fishface123 would be harder than just fishface obviously, but try replacing the i with the number 1 such as f1shface looks similar when written but it is harder to crack and simple to remember.

Another option is to break up the sylables on such a word like f1sh2face3.

If you want to get real advanced but still easy to remember substitute special characters for vowels this makes even a stronger password but yet easy to remember if you use the same charachters for set vowels in your passwords.

For example fishface could become f!shf@ce you could make it even harder by adding a signifigant number in the middle of the syllables or the last two digits of the current year such as f!sh09f@ce.

Just some ideas to help you become more secure when using passwords.

Valerie has been online for 3 years now and has a free report called, "The 7 Biggest Mistakes People Make with The Law of Attraction and How to Avoid Them"

Valerie got started on line due to the fact she was working very long hours in her hypnotherapy practice and needed to find a way to stop trading her time for dollars. Plus, she realized that she could help a lot more people if she could create products once and sell them multiple times.

Valerie's favorite things to do when not online: Is that she enjoy's playing with her little dog Ollie, reading, and hanging out with her friends with a cold beer!
